This activity is designed to help participants understand and implement the APA Practice Guideline for the Pharmacological Treatment of Patients with Alcohol Use Disorder. The case study vignette addresses the appropriate use of pharmacotherapy in patients with alcohol use disorder, describes clinical circumstances when it is indicated, discusses potential risks of its use, and lists conditions/clinical features that are contraindications.

- Explain the recommendations in the Practice Guideline for the Pharmacological Treatment of Patients With Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)
- Describe clinical circumstances in which the use of pharmacotherapy is indicated in an individual with AUD
- Identify the potential risks related to the use of pharmacotherapy in individuals with AUD
- List conditions or clinical features that would be a contraindication to use of naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram

How to Earn Credit
Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. A multiple-choice quiz is provided based on the content. A passing score of 50% must be achieved. Retakes are available for the test. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
Continuing Education Credit
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
